Speed up with Zumba, stretch out with yoga and learn healthy eating tips, all part of "3 Simple Ways to De-stress Your Life" taking place Aug. 22 in downtown Davenport.
Sponsored by The Women's Connection, it's a "Cocktails & Healthy Conversations" event that kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at the RiverCenter. It's one of 11 programs offered annually by the organization, but the only one that features exercise instruction and invites participants to wear workout clothes.
Presenters are Bettinna Bolger, the owner of Salsa Touch in Bettendorf; Jeni Tackett, a dietitian at UnityPoint Trinity, and Abby Webster-Moran, co-owner of the Indigo Wellness Studio in Moline.
The outing is designed to help women take a break from their stressful day, said Amanda Garrett, event coordinator and assistant director of The Women's Connection.
"We want the women to let loose, try something new and have fun," she said. The program, she added, gives participants "honest strategies and proven science for living a healthy, stress-free life through yoga, Zumba and replacement foods."
Each panelist will lead a brief discussion and then host demonstrations. Event-goers can take part in all three demonstrations and are encouraged to dress comfortably to try out the yoga poses and dance moves.
"Workout clothing is welcome," Garrett added.
Bolger offers a complete Zumba fitness program at her studio as well as a Latin dance program. Tackett has been a registered dietitian for 15 years and will be joined for her session by Tyler Roux, the executive chef at Trinity. Webster-Moran teaches yoga for stress relief and pain management at her studio.
Event sponsors include Alcoa, Merrill Lynch and St.Ambrose University, with additional support from Fyre Lake Golf Club, the Riverboat Development Authority and DHCU Community Credit Union, with in-kind support from the Hotel Blackhawk.
The Women's Connection is a nonprofit organization designed to inspire, educate, connect and empower women. It is one of the largest women's organizations in eastern Iowa and western Illinois and is sponsored by Royal Neighbors of America and UnityPoint Health Trinity.
